If you learned ENS before October 2026, you probably remember “$5 a year for a 5-letter name, paid in ETH”. That stopped being true when ENSv2 went live on Ethereum mainnet on 27 October 2026. Here is what a .eth name costs now, and how to pay as little as possible for it.
The new price list
| Name length | 1 year | 2 years | 3–5 years | 6+ years |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5+ characters | $8 | $7 | $5.50 | $4.50 |
| 4 characters | $160 | $140 | $110 | $90 |
| 3 characters | $640 | $560 | $440 | $360 |
Price per year, in USDC, as published by ENS for the ENSv2 launch. Gas is extra. Mainnet quotes are authoritative.
Three things that changed
1. Five-plus character names went from $5 to $8
The base price for the most common names went up by $3 a year. Four- and three-character names kept their prices.
2. You pay in USDC, not ETH
ENSv1 quoted prices in dollars but charged ETH, so the amount you sent changed with the ETH price. ENSv2 charges USDC. $8 is $8, whenever you renew.
3. Longer terms are cheaper
ENSv2 rewards commitment. Adding two full years takes 12.5% off. Three to five years takes about 31% off, and six years or more about 44%. The discount applies to registrations and renewals. It doesn't apply to the Price Cooldown fee charged on recently released names, and a term of one year and eleven months is still priced at the one-year rate.
What this means in practice
- One 5-letter name for 6 years: $27 in total, instead of $48 paid year by year.
- A 4-digit club name for 6 years: $540 instead of $960.
- Ten 5+ character names for 6 years: $270, or $45 a year for the whole portfolio.
If you plan to keep a name anyway, the 6-year tier is the best deal in ENS. You also stop worrying about the shorter 28-day grace period on ENSv2 names for a long while.
Renewing existing names
The same prices and discounts apply to renewals of every .eth name, whether it is still an ENSv1 name or has been upgraded to ENSv2. On ENS.Tools you can renew any mix of both in one USDC checkout, for 1 to 10 years, with the discount applied and no ENS.Tools fee. Here is how the checkout works.
Registering a new name
New .eth registrations are ENSv2 names, registered in the official ENS App. ENS.Tools is the place to find the name first:
- AI Search finds names by meaning. Describe what you want in plain English.
- Expiry Explorer shows names in grace and in Price Cooldown before they open up.
- The marketplace lists names you can buy today.
